Half-done things. It's like WIP Wednesday but on a Monday

In line with that pledge to show projects in progress, I want to share what I've been up to this week....

A friend bought me this delicious fabric from an opshop for FIFTY CENTS! I made this skirt thinking it would look good on me ...then when I was halfway through I found I was wrong! So I offered it to a friend, and finished it on Friday.


I'm working on a hungry-caterpillar height-chart for my son (and subsequent children when he gets siblings in future). I want to embroider a few marks every ten centimetres on it so that I can mark his height and give a rough answer to him without having to source a measuring tape.

Binding is cut and pressed ready for after embroidery.

A bit of Easter Sunday fun, here is my son in the bucket at his Nan & Pop's place on sunny Easter Sunday

I don't have any kind of certification, but I'm pretty sure he's the cutest thing in the whole world ;)

I bought this panel at the Rosehill show this year, trimmed the pieces half an inch away from the edge of the print, and then went WTF!? Look how crooked they are!!

Hopefully I can recover from the bias print. I told my husband it was "misprinted something fierce" and added "get it!?" ...Something fierce?
He just shook his head at me like all good husbands do LOL.

So from left to right, I have the height chart, laying on the batting for (this green & orange quilt) which is folded up on the right hand side under the fabric ready to be cut for the binding.
Then the tiger panel which is going to be a bedrunner for my bed, and I recently ironed a label onto my baby quilt I made a year ago, just got it there to secure with a few handstitches.


And this afternoon I made some very boyish cupcakes!

Rainbow Charm Swap April 2012 THERE'S STILL TIME TO JOIN!

I'm a part of The rainbow charm swap at Danielle's blog threads-n-mess.blogspot.com.au.

Here is some of the info explained by Danielle, so you know what I'm talking about:

This fabric swap is going to be based on collecting the rainbow. Everyone will be allocated a colour, then you'll need to source a tone on tone fabric that matches that colour, prepare it for the swap and then send it to Danielle, who'll split up all the colours of the rainbow and send you back your own pot of gold (2 charms from each swap, 58 charms in total). You're more than welcome to join more than once by selecting another colour(If you join more than once you get more than one charm pack in the end! Making fabric Easter eggs

At school, Easter and craft go hand in hand! But I was trying to avoid Easter craft in a way, because I am not the 'keeping' kind, and I don't want a decorative item that gets used for 1 week of the year (if lucky), and stored for the other 51 weeks.
But I pinned these fabric eggs over at Red Brolly the other day, and thought I would like to give them a try.

As crafty as I am, I don't own a hot glue gun, but I love a little no-sew project here and there!

Since Spotlight has been literally giving away $10 vouchers (the 'for a limited time' version, and one for my birthday as well) I took up the offer and bought some polystyrene eggs last week.

Block of the month, 7 done

A deadline can be a wonderful thing. My block of the month was a bit neglected due to the quick turnover of other projects this month.
When I realised that the next month's kit arrival would mean I'd have two packages unopened, I didn't want that to happen!

So I jumped onto it and finished all I could yesterday. Much easier with the iron nearby & my smaller ruler.
This means now I'm midway thru the current month which I'm much happier about.
Here's the pic of the block I did in one day (not including embroidery which I'd already done).

In line with the law of attraction I chose the word "Allow" in place of "Live".

Block of the month update - 6 blocks done

The block of the month quilt I began in September last year is coming along nicely (so say I).

I have only just begun to see some of the elements which probably drew me to the quilt in the first place.
I've realised that the words form a circular ring, which I knew, but the embroidered image next to the word is always on the outer edge of the quilt.

I love that the corner squares all have a strong deep red component to make a bold commitment to the outer edges.

The 4 inch stars which seemed to sporadically spread through the quilt actually form a ring as well, although I cheated with my centre block because I didn't want to have to complete four 4in squares LOL. There is a lot of ironing and trimming in them.
Same goes for the appliqued shapes.

Since I moved my sewing space, I've found it less daunting to do work that needs ironing. I've also found that block 7 seemed to come together a cinch! I have cut every piece already, and I attribute the speed of block 7 to my 4.5 inch ruler. Not having to lug the 24in whopper over each 2in sq certainly helps!!

I changed another embroidered word again as well. Allow instead of Live. This is in line with the law of attraction teachings which I just love. Those teachings are also why I changed:
and happiness WILL surround you
to
and happiness surrounds you.
As to draw or manifest something into your present, you need to use present tense. If you always say it *will* happen, you're keeping it consistently in the future rather than inviting it into your present ...Ok that could have been a bit heavy for some of you, but I'm sure some will get it.

I also kinda convinced Ally to change one of her words too. She is getting me to do the embroidered words on her quilt because I don't mind getting to hers once mine are done, and she's over the embroidery component LOL.

I think I'll keep the rest the same. I think "Share", "Forgive", and "Enjoy" are all great words preceding "and happiness surrounds you".
