I'm a fun loving 30 something year old . Married my favourite guy. Started on my production of children & number 1 is an adorable boy. Big on family. Big on craft. Love country music. Love fuss free + practical ...aaand maybe with just a little bow for decoration!

Love the law of attraction too. And singing ...dancing ...bright colours and excessive punctuation ...and stationery.

New logo & a completed quilt top for sharing

So excited, I got given a new logo by my bestie who runs Virtually Perfect as an awesome office assistant and webdesign and the whole sh'bang!

What do you think?

and she made one for my facebook cover too.

I just had to share because they're SO cool, I can't get over it.

While I'm here I'll show you a quilt top I don't think I've shared. Finished in October (2012), it's for my husband's brother's girlfriend, Hannah.
The original intention was to finish it and send it to her while she's staying in Austria to remind her of all of us. But seeing as postage is so expensive from Australia to Austria, and they are travelling about anyway, I decided to keep it at home in the end.
It's probably the girliest quilt I've ever done. I used a pattern from the book Think fast, by Swirly Girls Design that I bought from Blueberries, my LQS.
Meanwhile, in our town a cupcakery opened and I used the cutesy scraps to make a little wallhanging for the owner, Melissa, as a little gift. She made the cake pops for my 30th birthday and her creations are so delicious.

Thanks for joining me XO

Back to the BOM

I began a BOM (block of the month) quilt kit when my almost 2 year old was only a few weeks old. Or maybe before that? Anyway, it was 12 blocks, 12 months. Yes, I know it's been more like 20, but I'm still working on that final block lol.
Any sewist will know that projects get moved around on the priority list (and I have a tub of things I once started). BUT! I got my final block out again this week, after finishing a quilt top for my friend who got married this year. (U like it?)

I designed it to make the most of a fat quarter stack a friend gave me. The triangles were supposed to look all uneven but I'm so anal I had to make them all 45 degrees and 60 degrees. So now they just look like bad seams. Ah well.
Anyway, I'd embroidered the word that goes in the final block, so I thought I was further along in progress than I was.
Albeit disappointing to find I was at the beginning, familiarising myself with the block reminded me of how much I had a crush on the fabric range and I fell in love with it all over again.
I wrote this whole blog post yesterday, but in the cyber trip from my phone to the net it didn't survive. The good news is I've already fused and sewn much of the block in the meantime. Next stop is three Ohio stars which I like the look of, but don't really like the constant need for pressing and cutting a bunch of pieces. Anyway, [thinking positively], they're the last ones I'll have to do for a while.
It just so happens that we get our new bed tomorrow, so I will need to get this quilt finished and soon display it on our new bed!!
~~
I'm really excited because two close friends are getting new sewing machines for Christmas!
Mums is an upgrade, and my bridesmaid is beginning to wonder what hit her in the sewing world as it's her first ever machine!!
She is so excited, she is already planning blogs and pages and logos for sharing her creations. I can't wait to share more details with you, but I'll simply have to.

What else I've been up to......
I've been updating with brief sentences and photos on my facebook page rather than blogging. If you're on Facebook, be sure to join me and hopefully I will make you laugh with something relatable or a crafty picture!

Other finishes:

I made a bunch of rice filled shooting stars for my mother's group friends

I made this adorable quilted teacup pouch using an instant download pattern from patchwork pottery. I want to make more, aren't they cute?!

Some fleece shapes filled with rice for my family currently travelling Europe. 25sec in the microwave and these will help keep fingers toasty inside jacket pockets on those days where the weather forecast begins with a minus symbol!

Here are my friends from Wyong Patchwork & Quilting enjoying the festivities.

Merry Christmas guys, and all the best wishes for 2013!

Happy Birthday for tomorrow

Whilst I was mentioning to her about how *anal* my Mum can be at times, this friend of mine retorts “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, honey” and we both laugh. Only a close friend can tell it like it is, and you know she’s close because you have numerous pairs of shoes the same as hers!

Picture this: I had a new co-worker coming to my workplace, in the late 90s. Only being at the bottom of the proverbial food chain at the company, I had no idea of the new girl’s details (even name) until just before her start date.
I was excited and nervous. I’m a real people person and I love to chat, and we would be working pretty closely together. I had wondered whether she would be chatty, younger or older, excited and motivated or distracted and distant......

I don’t remember the day I met Ally, but I know now it changed my life. This new girl was just as bubbly and chatty as I was!
At some point we realised why we were so similar....

we shared the exact same birthday!!!

She was in a long term relationship like me (she was married whereas I only wished I was), and back then we even went to Jenny Craig together (Sorry Ally! LOL remember the work we had to do for one elusive tim tam a week?)

~

Things changed and when Ally got another job elsewhere we lost touch. I ended up buying a house in the same suburb as her. We both can’t remember why we lost touch, looking back. But that doesn’t matter now...

~

When I was looking at learning patchwork (Christmas 2009), I found that there is a patchwork store in my suburb!! Looking through the gallery of the store's events I saw a familiar face out of nowhere it was Ally! She actually worked there!

I wondered if she recalled why we drifted apart, and was really concerned I’d done something horrible and since forgotten!

When the store opened in the new year I called the store to ask something and who should answer but Ally!
OMG I was crapping my pants that maybe I was her arch nemesis and I’d forgotten some dramatic reason that we weren’t close friends like we once were! And now I was putting my cheek out for the slapping! WhatdoIsay!!?
All that was rushing through my head and I managed to tell her it was me, and asked if she remembered me. She did, of course, and whilst she was preparing to say “how have you been?” I jumped in to say “before we go any further, did I, like, break your heart or anything???” LOL (*go me* for too honest) and thank God she also can’t remember if we had some blowout or why we drifted apart!!

We said we’d love to see each other again soon, I tried not to act too keen (read: “stalker who knows where you work and live”) by leaving it a few hours before adding her on facebook LOL. I’ve since found out she was anticipating I’d add her straight away and basically we both over analysed it LOL.

I’d asked her plenty of technical questions throughout construction of my first quilt, and would have been totally lost without her when it came to basting. I basted that quilt on the floor at her place before quilting it in my little Singer.

~

My husband calls me an “All or nothing” kind of person. I’d love to sms all my friends every single day if I had the time, but I think I’d annoy them (so I don’t). Or like when I become a fan of an artist, the “all” part of my personality comes shining through (for example this quilt I made for Bob Corbett!)

Thankfully for me, Ally is somewhat an All or Nothing person too, and we talk every day.

I could go on and on but I’ll wrap it up with a few facts such as she was the first to know I was pregnant with my son (I even sent her an MMS of the home pregnancy test to ask if it was really two blue lines or not and she didn’t flinch LOL), we both love to create, and her third son was born within a few months of my first so we tend to talk ‘breastfeeding’ pretty much weekly hehe.

I thank God she is in my life and we hope there isn’t any more ‘drifting apart’ ever again.

Make sure you check out her blog and her facebook page

Name game quilt swap - Received my mini quilt & it's classic!

I am writing this late at night whilst my Husband tells me I should be asleep, so it is very brief!!
I received my much anticipated name game swap mini quilt this week! It was the size of a big shoe box and I didn't realise it was received until the next morning because my husband had put it on the table and I didn't see it!
First up was a letter to tell the story of my package all the way from France!
Lovely letter too

Wrapped in tissue paper *adorable*!!

Mini quilt received from Christine cricrij77
Name game Mini quilt received from Christine. See the bookshelf, window, table books, and stool!? It's amazing!!

Lucky for me, she put my name on it. With the little French flag and all, my mother wants to steal it to hang in HER sewing room, but it is really growing on me.

But there is more!
And a little something extra again!

All the things added in!
As well as all this thoughtful stuff. Some local magazines, a bunch of gorgeous notepads for sketching ideas, some super cute red buttons, red papers and a bookmark too!
That green fabric is all mine, and I think it may become one of my "uncuttables". You know, one of those fat quarters for which no project is ever good enough so it stays in your stash forever because you just love it too much to wreck it by cutting it up!!

My only regret is that I wish I sent more to my partner, but I guess Christine has taught me to share more of myself next time I am a part of a swap. Thank you, Christine. your handiwork will hang in my home with appreciation. (Another little note to you - How do I know your blog address? I know your swap partner has sent your parcel to you because she is my friend! And I think you should receive your package soon!)

I love a deadline - 52 projects for 2012! 1 of 52: Bunting

I've joined a facebook group with the intent to make 1 project per week, all year. Big ask, I know. But it's the first week of the year and so far: so good!
There was a theme for week one, being "Party". One of the 3 suggestions was bunting. I've had this scrap of a panel given to me a while ago, and I didn't really like the warm yellow & beige in the collection, so I haven't done anything with it.
Seeing as I knew it would come together fast, I quickly pinned it right sides together and sewed all the seams before cutting the flags out.

I laid it right-sides-together on some backing fabric and just sewed straight from one side to the other zig zagging to the end - SOO fast! I started cutting out then remembered I must take a picture!

This is how it turned out. I quite like it, the aqua mosaic design is my favourite one (top left).

What do you reckon?! Cute?

The Christmas Blog. HoHoHo

A total Christmas update in the one blog...
The Christmas party for my other circle of sewing ladies was at Ripple Patch headquarters. Samantha has just launched this online store and lessons on site business and kindly offered her premises to host our Christmas celebrations.

I had to take along a gift to the value of about $10. So did Mum, so we both took Qwash quilt wash and I wrapped them both in the following ways...

And speaking of gifts, my gal pal gave me this AWESOME keyring which just screams "CASSTHECOOLEST"!!!!
I LOVE it!!

I made a Christmas tree with lollies as inspired by this lollipop tree
which is the same site I got those candy cane mice from.

I decorated my first ever gingerbread house! My local Coles sold a kit with completed cookies ready to be erected and decorated and I had a ball. No cleaning up happened on this day. My baby did get breakfast and lunch though, so it's not all bad LOL.

I recently saw Ashley's post on treat jars using baby food jars & knew I'd use it soon. I just love www.makeit-loveit.com I'm a true fan!

I made some up for my friends Dani & Kelly with Christmas candies (Red & Green M&Ms and chocolate santas) & Christmas fabrics.

They came over with their gorgeous kiddies for a get together at my place ...connecting with friends, family, and connecting with friends' families. What Christmas is all about!

My creative circle

Another day, another stitch! Today was one of our craft meeting days. My Mum, Sister in law, Aunty and I regularly get together for the sole purpose of craft. Oh and chatting all day just goes with the territory. It's the stuff of "How to make an American quilt" movie scenes. No it's more lovely than that. It's inspirational. It's so lovely to be a part of a family who make time for goodness. I believe in goodness, and sharing it is just great fun.

This time, instead of meeting at one of our houses we went to a local cafe. I can be seen doing some stitching for another of my crafty friends, Ally. I don't have any hand sewing to do at the moment, and she doesn't like the embroidery much so I have told her I'll get to it between my projects. She keeps cooking me delicious meals, so helping her with our block of the month is the least I can do.

Mum is working on a tea cloth she started last century, and if she ever gets finished I don't dare anyone to touch that thing, it's going to be precious. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned by damaged craft, I say!

Sharon was working on crochet again, little by little she makes these glorious creations!

Aunty Sandra showed us some of the adorable little winter dudes she has been sewing with a 5th grade class.

And I shared some cute mice I cut out this week...

No sew Christmas gifts, how cute are they?! I found them at this tutorial and just made the shapes up from looking at them. I tried making the ears a little bigger as I went along, as you can see.

All of us, and the assistant, Larson.
